Elise Kythera Zaavan, known as the Spider Queen, is one of the most enigmatic and terrifying figures in Runeterra. Once a revered mistress of a noble house in Noxus, her life took a dark and twisted turn after an encounter with the monstrous spider god, Vilemaw. Bitten by the creature, Elise was granted eternal youth and supernatural abilities but was forever transformed into something both alluring and horrifying. She now serves as a seductress and predator, luring victims to sustain her immortality.  

The Rise of the Spider Queen

Elise’s rise to infamy began with her manipulation of the Noxian aristocracy. From a young age, she wielded her beauty and intelligence like weapons, shaping the ambitions and fates of those around her. Her transformation into a spider-hybrid only amplified her abilities, giving her an almost supernatural allure. With every smile and whispered promise, Elise spins her web of deceit, drawing in the unwary with the lure of power or pleasure.

Her allegiance lies with Vilemaw, the spider god of the Shadow Isles, whose venom sustains her immortality. In exchange, Elise provides a steady supply of prey—often faithless followers or power-hungry acolytes seeking forbidden knowledge.  

A Member of the Black Rose

Elise holds a significant position within the Black Rose, a shadowy faction rooted in Noxian politics and sorcery. Her relationship with LeBlanc, the mysterious leader of the Black Rose, is one of mutual benefit. LeBlanc entrusts Elise with retrieving ancient artifacts from the cursed lands of the Shadow Isles, while Elise receives acolytes from the Black Rose to offer as sacrifices to Vilemaw. This sinister partnership ensures both women maintain their influence and power.

Appearance: Beauty and Terror Combined

Elise is a master of duality, balancing human beauty with inhuman terror. In her human form, she exudes a dark, mesmerizing charm. Her sharp features, slicked-back hair streaked with scarlet, and piercing dark eyes create a striking image. Her attire—a black and scarlet cloak fastened with a fang-like brooch—enhances her aura of seductive danger.

However, beneath her human facade lies her true form: a monstrous spider hybrid. When transformed, her elegant figure gives way to a grotesque, arachnoid body. Additional limbs sprout from her back, her skin darkens, and vivid predator patterns emerge. Elise can shift between full spider form and an intermediate state, blending human and spider traits in a horrifying yet captivating display.

The Welcome to Noxus cinematic offered a fresh perspective on Elise’s design. Her red, emotionless mask heightened her aura of mystery, making her appear even more cunning and deceptive. By toning down her spider-like characteristics in this portrayal, she became a subtler yet more dangerous figure. The black dress and veil enhanced her seductive qualities, aligning perfectly with her role as a Black Rose conspirator.

Elise is a creature of contradictions—beautiful yet terrifying, human yet monstrous. She thrives in the shadows, weaving webs of lies and betrayal, ensuring that her power endures. Whether hunting for prey, retrieving ancient relics, or scheming within the Black Rose, Elise remains a figure of fascination and fear.  

Her tale serves as a chilling reminder of the dangers of unchecked ambition and the lengths one will go to maintain eternal youth and power. In the grand theater of Noxian politics, Elise Kythera Zaavan is a spider at the center of a vast and deadly web.
